The regionalist tendencies are an upcoming trend in Europe. Recently, Catalonia held a referendum to express its wish to be independent. These tendencies spread out more and more through out Europe. Others such as Flanders, Corsica, the Basque Country, Lombardic region, claim for more autonomy. The Committee of the Region (CoR), is an EU institution that represents the interests of the regions and cities. The Committee was created in 1994, their main focus is to bring the European Union closer to its citizens. Therefore, they support the regionalist governments on all major issues of local and regional relevance.
As an advisory body, the CoR works closely with the European Parliament in order to facilitate the cohesion and the integration of European cities and regions in the EU.
To better understand this interaction, a visit to the Committee of the Regions will be organized on 23 November 2017 at 14h. The CoR will welcome BYD’s members for an informative discussion and a guiding tour in their premises.
Do you want to know more about the working of the CoR? Do you want to have a discussion with an EU expert about the interaction between the EU and the cities/regions?
